Born to South African farming family and educated in Kwa-Zulu Natal and the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
After internship at the Johannesburg General Hospital and two years of National Service, spent twenty years in rural family medicine.
Joined De Beers in 1999 and seconded to the Orapa Mine Hospital in Botswana for four years as Health Manager.
Transferred to De Beers Head office in Johannesburg in 2004, as Chief Medical Officer responsible for Health issues in the De Beers Group.  Joined Shell in 2007 as Regional Health Manager, Exploration and Production Africa, based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Married to Jill and we are blessed with two married sons, a daughter and a granddaughter.

At heart I am a rural family practitioner. My major interest is the health and wellbeing of people, including employees and their families, Contractors and local communities.
