Job Title: Medical Quality Director Department/Unit: Quality Improvement Unit Job Location: Lagos State
A reputable hospital in Lagos is recruiting to fill the position of a Medical Quality Director. The overall
objective is to strengthen all quality management activities of the hospital and healthcare system. This is
a strategic role, and the Quality Director will foster cross-functional and system-wide relationships
beyond the quality improvement and patient safety.
Reporting Relationships:
-Functionally Reports To: Chief Medical Director
-Administratively Reports To: Chief Medical Director
-Supervises: Quality Manager, Quality Improvement department, infection control, etc. at all Hospitals
branches.
Working Relationships
-Internal: Medical Directors, Medical officers, Consultants, HR, Quality Manager, Chief Matron, Nurses
and support departments within the Hospital
-External: Patients, Relatives, international and local regulatory agencies
Candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Oversee the management of the quality unit within the hospital.
• Develop strategic plans and policies for improved quality of care throughout the hospital and work
with the Executive team to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Monitoring the performance of all improvement projects across hospital departments and
consolidating them into the Quality department’s dashboard.
• Manage departmental sub-functions within a broader departmental function. Such functions would
include- Operating theater efficiency and effectiveness, and support Theatre Users Committee.
• Create functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develop
budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
• Support the training of medical and non-medical manpower on Quality improvement and Patient
Safety.
• Ensure that all healthcare workers hired are credentialed and privileged appropriately according to
hospital policy
• Timely resolution of grievances and complaints
• Timely review and implementation of Quality infrastructure within the hospital
• Ensure the functioning of various medical committees in the hospitals. And keep the Senior
Management Team informed about the proceedings of these meetings.
• Participate in the process of setting the performance standards for clinical staff.
• Monitor, assess, review, and evaluate medical and other medical staff performance based on the
establishment of measurable outcome that reflect the goals and standards of the Organization
• Champion Quality projects for departments across the hospitals
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, bylaws, regulatory requirements, and best practice
guidelines (pertaining to clinical practice & quality) for all units.
• Review Medical Audit reports regularly and communicate the same to the Executive committee
• Ensure accreditation with JCI or any other appropriate accreditation organization.
• Ensure other regulatory standards are met as they apply to the Hospital units and hospitals.
• Develop and approve a continuous quality improvement policy and frequency of review, and including
action plan and follow-up
• Set level of medical care and quality for patients using available data and chart reviews
• Be responsible for monitoring and validating the Quality Council reports on Patient Safety, Clinical
Effectiveness and Patient Experience.
• Validate and benchmark quality indicators like Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI)
/Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infection (CLABSI)/ Return to ICU / Return to Operating Theatre
and Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers/ injuries (HAPU/I) in the unit
• Oversee trainings for Quality teams, Clinical Pharmacists, ICNs on patient safety issues / Accreditation
Standards & centrally rolled out SOPs on Medical Processes
• Participate in the budgeting exercise for the company and be present in appropriate business
discussions
• Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental
function and the interrelatedness with other work groups within the medical Ecosystem.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Medical, Nursing or Pharmacy degree
Masters of Sciences degree or equivalent is required
Fellowship of the West African or National Medical College is desirable
Professional Qualification:
IASSC or ASQ Certifications – Black belt
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality® (CPHQ)
FISQua – desirable
Experience (Dimension and No of years): Minimum of 10 years’ relevant professional experience is
desirable.
